Award Rules

Description

The BIM Africa Innovation Awards (the "Awards") recognizes the talents and efforts of leading industry professionals and organizations in the construction sector going above and beyond to deploy innovative solutions towards Africa's Development. The growing demand for critical infrastructure to meet the need of a rapidly rising population and boost economic growth across the African continent has necessitated the need for a paradigm shift in the construction project delivery approach via the integration of digital and innovative technologies. As a pan-African multidisciplinary network of BIM experts and enthusiasts, BIM Africa (the “Sponsor”) is aligned to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through fostering innovation, sustainable infrastructure, and urban development to drive Africa’s economic growth.

Nomination for the Award is open to individuals, groups, project teams, start-ups, small or large corporate institution, students, and professionals across the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry. Nomination will be considered for only entries relating any African countries as detailed in Eligibility below.

Guidelines

  • All nominations must be submitted online via the corresponding category forms available at https://awards.bimafrica.org (the “Award Site”).
  • Nomination for the award is entirely free and with no financial obligations.
  • All entries must be completed and submitted by the closing date as indicated in the timeline below to be considered.
  • Nominations are welcomed for multiple categories submission only if entry is aligned with each category requirements. Multiple nominations of Individuals or Organisations within the same category do not influence the selection decision.
  • Entries must be written in English. Supporting documents should be translated before submission. Entries must include links to multiple supporting evidence (such as documents, videos or images loaded on an openly accessible storage location online).
  • Content submitted must not contain any material that may, in the sole judgment of Sponsor, infringe on the intellectual property rights of any third party, including but not limited to, copyrights or trademarks owned by others.
  • Content submitted must not violate any third party’s publicity or privacy rights. If an Entry contains the name, likeness, image, video, and/or written or spoken words of any third party, including Nominee, the Entrant must obtain the third-party’s written consent to include such materials in the Entry prior to submitting the Entry.
  • For project entries, consent must be sought from the project owner.
  • For organisational entries, consent should be sought from the nominated organisation.
  • Entry must not contain confidential/trade secrets or proprietary information or violate the terms of your employment or that of a Nominee/Nominee’s employment.
  • By entering, Entrant/Nominator represents and warrants that (i) he/she has obtained all of the necessary rights, licenses, and permissions from any person who may have helped or participated in the creation of the Entry; (ii) that the Entrant/Nominator has the right/permission to agree to these Official Rules and to grant the rights referred to in these Official Rules (free from any encumbrances and/or third-party rights); (iii) that the Entry conforms to these Official Rules, the requirements of the Contest Site and is not subject to any third party agreement(s); and (iv) that the Sponsor or its agencies will not be required to pay or incur any sums to any person or entity, including without limitation, any copyright collecting societies or holders of copyrights, neighbouring rights, or moral rights, or to persons representing such, as a result of Sponsor’s (or it’s agent’s) use or exploitation of Entry materials or rights therein.
  • The content of all submissions remains, at all times, the copyright of the entrant. The Sponsor and BIM Africa Innovation Awards may wish to reproduce some relevant content for the purpose of promotional materials such as: Publicity, Award winners’ case-studies, or other. If an entrant does not wish to give automatic permission for material to be reproduced, without prior discussion, this must be noted when the submission is made. Financial information will not be published.
  • Evidence provided to support results should be referenced and entries can be disqualified if the data source is not cited.
  • Supporting material, such as independently produced data, industry surveys, extracts from analysts’ reports, testimonials, press articles, etc. will only be accepted if provided as part of the written submission online. No further hard copy information is required.
  • Content submitted cannot contain material or any element that is unlawful, or otherwise violate any applicable federal, state, and/or local laws, rules, treaty, or regulations.
  • Individuals or Organisations with Winning Entries will be invited to participate at the BIM Africa Summit (BAS) 2023 on the 18th and 19th of May 2023 in Marrakech, Morocco, particularly the Innovation Awards 2023 Dinner on May 19th 2023. Winners of each category will be offered only Two (2) Delegate passes for the Summit.
  • Travel, Visa and Lodging arrangements to participate at the Innovation Awards 2023 Dinner are solely the responsibility of Individuals or Organisations with Winning Entries.
  • The Sponsor and BIM Africa Innovation Awards shall not be liable for any costs, damages and loss related to the required Travel, Visa and Lodging arrangements of Individuals or Organisations with Winning Entries.
  • Individuals or Organisations with Winning Entries give the Sponsor the full right to use images and motion pictures captured during the Innovation Awards Dinner to promote the objectives of the Sponsor and BIM Africa Innovation Awards. Such images and motion pictures may be used to project the Sponsor and BIM Africa Innovation Awards to the public. Such images and motion pictures may be published in newspapers, digital prints, handbills, billboards, and wears. They may also be aired via telecast. Photographs and motion pictures captured may be used for jingles and advertisements within and outside Africa.
  • By entering, Entrants acknowledge compliance with these Official Rules including all Conditions of Entry.

The Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Entry for any reason, in its sole and absolute discretion, including the determination that an Entry fails to satisfy any of the Project Entry Requirements, Conditions of Entry, or is inconsistent with the goals, image, or policies of the Sponsor. Any Entry not submitted in accordance with the instructions provided on the Contest Site (which are incorporated herein by reference) shall not be considered for the Contest, and none of the Released Parties shall bear any responsibility for any such invalid/incomplete entries. To withdraw an Entry, you must notify the Sponsor via [email protected]. Decisions in all matters relating to the Awards by the Sponsor will be final and binding.

Eligibility

For Award categories related to Organisations: Entries will be accepted from organisations with an office in any African country.

For Award categories related to Projects awards: Entries will be accepted for projects based in an African country.

For Award categories related to Individuals awards: Entries will be accepted for individuals having all of their nominating engagements in any African country.

Entries will be accepted from project owners, developers, construction consultants, contractors, architecture, engineering firms and relevant start-ups.

Any authorised person from within an organisation can nominate the company, a project, or an individual or themselves.

Recent mergers or re-organisations will not be accepted for Entries related to the Outstanding Startup Award category. Entries must be established less than Five (5) years and operating within the building and infrastructure Industry.

Timeline

January 20 - Nomination Kick-off.

March 6 - Close of Nomination.

March 1 - April 14 - Nomination review and investigative research.

April 15 - 18 - Reach-out and finalization.

April 19 – Announcement of Innovation Awards 2023 Shortlist.

May 19 – Unveiling Winners at Awards Dinner - BIM Africa Summit 2023, Marrakesh, Morocco.

Judging

The judging panel is independent, and their decision is final.

The judging panel reserves the right to re-categorise or reject any entry that does not comply with the requirements of the competition and entry criteria.

Entries will only be judged on the basis of the information provided in the entry form and additional supporting material where submitted.

Details of the judging conversations will not be disclosed.

No correspondence will be entered into by the Awards Team or the judges regarding feedback on entries.

Judges are requested to declare any conflict of interests and remove themselves from the process if they are asked to judge an entry that poses one.

Confidentiality

We will respect as confidential any financial data submitted unless given express permission to use it.

If there is a particular part of an entry that you would prefer to be kept confidential then please clarify this on the entry.

All entries will be stored securely on our website and accessible only by the judges.

By entering the BIM Africa Innovation Awards, companies are authorising the organisers to use the ‘description’, ‘photos’ and ‘company logo’, for the purpose of the awards presentation and external marketing.
